Anti-aging sounds like the fountain of youth. Is the fountain of youth real? Maybe not. Is anti-aging real? Absolutely.
The first secret of anti?aging is eating more antioxidants. Anti?oxidants protect cells against free radicals. Free radicals damage cells. That cell damage is called oxidation, or aging. Imagine taking a bite of an apple and letting it sit, it later has a brown spot on it. That is oxidation. That is how cells become damaged over time.
Green tea, berries, and dark chocolate are three foods full of anti-oxidants. Green tea contains Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), an antioxidant at least 100 more times more effective than vitamin C and 25 times more effective than vitamin E at protecting cells and DNA from damage believed to be linked to cancer, heart disease and other illnesses. Many have heard of reservatrol lately. This antioxidant has twice the benefits of resveratrol, found in red wine.
Berries have much higher levels of anti-oxidants than other fruit. Dr. Josh Axe recommends eating them for breakfast and encourages buying berry juice blends made from acai, goji, mangosteen, pomegranate, or blueberries, in addition to taking 1?3oz daily. However, chose the berry blend with less than 10 grams of sugar per serving for optimal health.
A favorite among many is dark chocolate. The reason is the cocoa found in the dark chocolate. To find the recommended amount of cocoa, the chocolate food should contain 70% or more cocoa. That amount keeps the sugar content down. Finally, the ideal splurge for the late night snack!
