
As the dust around the world has settled of the shocking news of Michael Jackson's untimely death, the Jackson family is allowing fans to say one last goodbye to the pop icon at a free memorial service on Tuesday, July 7.
The memorial service - which will highlight his career and life- will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles at 10 A.M. on Tuesday morning.
According to the Los Angeles Times:
"Organizers of Michael Jackson's Tuesday memorial service said today that they will give away 17,500 tickets and will randomly draw names from people who register for the service to determine who will attend. The event will be live-streamed on television and on the Internet, and there will be no funeral procession.
Organizers will draw 8,750 names, and those people will receive two tickets each and wristbands on Monday. People can register for the drawing at Staplescenter.com.
No tickets will be sold to the event, organizers said at a news conference this morning at Staples Center."
The Jackson family will reportedly have a private funeral for the "Thriller" star on Tuesday morning before the public memorial service at Staples.
Jackson's Burial Suit
Los Angeles-based costume designers, Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush, are set to design the suit the King of Pop will be buried in. According to Access Hollywood, Jackson worked with Tompkins and Bush for the last 20 years of his career and the duo was currently creating costumes for his This Is It comeback tour in London.
Buried in James Brown's casket
The "You Are Not Alone" hitmaker will reportedly be laid to rest in the same make of casket as the late soul singer James Brown.
According to TMZ.com, the Batesville Casket Company received an order for a $25,000 custom bronze casket, called The Promethean, for the "Billie Jean" hitmaker.
The Promethean is a 14-karat gold-plated casket with a dark blue velvet interior and a hand-polished, mirror finish.
Jackson's Resting Place - Forest Lawn Memorial Park
Reports suggest Jackson will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills, following the memorial service at Staples Center. Jackson's grandmother was buried at Forest Lawn in 1990.
Although the cemetery refused to comment on the rumored burial plans, if true Jackson would join Lucille Ball, Bette Davis and Liberace.
Michael Jackson's creative contribution to the music industry and to the world as a whole will be greatly missed.
