America's angel is gone.
Farrah Fawcett, television and movie star, finally succumbed to the cancer she had been battling for three years.
Fawcett died on Thursday morning at a Santa Monica, California hospital. Her death was largely overshadowed by the unexpected passing of music legend Michael Jackson later that same day.
Fawcett was best known for her role as one of the glamorous female private investigators on the television series "Charlie's Angels." She also was the dream woman to legions of fans in the 70's after she posed for an iconic poster shot in a red bathing suit.
Fawcett's funeral is set for Tuesday afternoon in California and is being organized by her lifelong partner, fellow actor Ryan O'Neal.
She and O'Neal share a son, 24-year-old Redmond, who survives his mother.
O'Neal issued a sad statement following the 62-year-old's death:
She's gone. She now belongs to the ages. She's now with her mother and sister and her God. I loved her with all my heart. I will miss her so very, very much. She was in and out of consciousness. I talked to her all through the night. I told her how very much I loved her. She's in a better place now. She was with her team when she passed ... Her eyes were open, but she didn't say anything. But you could see in her eyes that she recognized us."
