The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), perhaps best known as the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization, announced in a press conference on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 that the 2009 ALMA Awards are presenting more Latino talent in more categories than ever before.

This year’s show, “The 2009 ALMA Awards,” which is sure to be an entertainment winner is being taped Thursday, September 17, 2009 at the Royce Hall Auditorium at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and is schedule for broadcast on Friday, September 18, 2009, exclusively on the ABC Television Network at 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

The celebrity lineup is dizzying and includes some of the hottest teen/tween talent in the entertainment industry today, names such as: David Archuleta, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez , Jake T. Austin, Francia Raisa, Kat DeLuna and Black Eyed Peas.

NCLR President and CEO Janet Murguía said at the press conference, “If you like the ALMA Awards, you will love this year’s show because we’re bringing you more of what you love most, unique musical pairings and the best Latino entertainment.” She added, “The ALMA Awards is one of the few opportunities in primetime to spotlight the Latino presence in entertainment, and we want to celebrate the impact Latinos had last year not only in film and television, but also in music and sports television.”

The ALMA’s, which celebrates the outstanding achievements of Latinos in the entertainment industry, coincides for the first time this year with National Hispanic Heritage Month, which highlights the Latino community and celebrates the numerous contributions that Latinos have made to the country throughout its history.

One of the Latino performers in each category will be honored for Special Achievement. This year’s categories and honorees are as follows:
