Spencer Turner is one of the top basketball prospects in basketball prospects in the state of Indiana. The 6-foot-3, 180 junior-to-be being recruited by several of the nations top programs, including IU, Purdue and Ohio State. I caught up with Turner recently at an AAU tournament.

Johnston: What have you been working on this summer?

Turner: I've been working on my ball handling. Everyone thinks I'm just a shooter but I've really been working on that. I've also been working on getting quicker, faster and stronger. I'm also working on my defense and shooting on the move, instead of just spotting up and shooting. Everyone knows mr as an outside shooter, so I feel like I need to prove that I can handle the ball a littler bit.

Johnston: How did last season go for you?

Turner: It went well. We actually ended up winning the state championship. Jordan Hulls was on my team and that always helps when you have the best player in the state on your team. I felt I did pretty well. I averaged about 12 points per game. I also had Dee Davis and he is a very good player as well.

Johnston: What schools have shown the most interest?

Turner: IPFW has offered. A lot of Big 10 schools are showing interest. I've been getting a lot of calls from Wisconsin, Ohio State, Illinois, Michigan, Purdue and Minnesota.

Johnston: Do you have a favorite?

Turner: No not really. Right now I'm just trying to stay open. The process has been a lot of fun.

Johnston: Are you planning on taking any visits or going to any elite camps?

Turner: I have actually taken a lot of visits. I've been to Wisconsin, Purdue, Ohio State and I went to Michigan for a visit and to their elite camp. I met with their coaches. It was actually one of the best camps I've gone to. I've also been to Indiana's elite camp and I really liked it also. I really liked coach (John) Beilein and coach (Tom) Crean.

Johnston: What did you think of Beilein's offense?

Turner: I liked it. He has two shooters in there, so I feel like that fits me pretty well. Beilein is a great guy. He really knows the game. I sat down and talked with him for abut an hour and he really knows the game. I like his style and I feel it fits me well.
