Chaka Khan (Dwight McCann / Chumash Casino Resort / www.DwightMcCann.com)

DC, you deserve something for all of your brown-bagging earnestness and Live! On Woodrow Wilson Plaza is offering a series of  free lunchtime concerts as a fitting reward.

They have chosen Chaka Khan to kick off these lunchtime concerts and this is quite fitting because June is also Black Music Month.

The multiple Grammy award-winning singer has been singing since she was a child and her hits include, "One You Get Started," "Tell Me Something Good," "I'm Every Woman," and her re-make of Prince's " I Feel For You, " and "Through the Fire," which was sampled by Kanye West.

The series runs from June 3 through September 25. Performances take place from Noon until 1:30pm (with the exception of the last performance, during which DC go-go legend Chuck Brown will take to the stage from 5-7pm).
