According to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the recent wave of town hall protesters are nothing but “un-American.” Referring to the activism of such “un-American” Americans, Congressman Brian Baird (D.-Washington) described the dissenters’ methods with the following quote: “What we’re seeing right now is close to Brown Shirt tactics.” “I mean that very seriously.”
Lovely. Below is a video of a man, a private citizen, a Marine Corps Veteran, who stood up and gave Mr. Baird a short history lesson in what the Nazi (National Socialist) Party accomplished besides genocide. It’s good to see some Americans are actually reading their American history. It’s even better that American citizens are using that history to their advantage against the rhetoric of powerful politicians.
Far too many on the Left believe they are fighting against the long but subtle shadow cast by Hitler’s Germany. Many of them were also educated in state-run high schools only to graduate with 2.0 GPAs and major in Post-Critical-Past-Deconstruction-Marxist Theory (or something of that confused sort) before becoming social workers or (sadly) teachers themselves. (Those with higher college GPAs applied immediately for law school or entered—GASP!—the private sector by becoming journalists in the pursuit of Truth, Justice, and Livable Minimum Wages.) All the while, these highly un-informed (though well-intentioned) do-gooders have believed their entire lives that Hitler endorsed libertarian and conservative (or classical liberal) ideas, such as, free-market capitalism and government so small that it does little than hold a census every ten years. (Usually, even that’s one-too-many jobs for it to accomplish competently, however.)
Hitler and his political party believed in nothing of the sort. While ignorance is usually bliss, Washington politicians are now feeling the hurt from such historical bliss because of town hall protesters such as David Hedrick (see video). Let’s hope they alleviate their pain by reading a book on Nazi history before calling more American citizens “brown-shirts.” (And maybe then we won’t have to face the pain of socialized medicine either!)
