On September 8th schools across the country will be tuning in to hear an educational address from the White House. An unprecedented speech will be made to school-aged children across America via the internet.

Schools across America are encouraged to have their children ready to view the speech by preparing questions and answers ahead of time and educating them on Barack Obama’s writings, Presidency and biography. Teachers have been given an outline to prepare the kids, which includes having the kids possibly ask themselves, ”What is it the President is asking me to do?” and “What new ideas and actions is the President challenging me to do?”  With more details about additional teaching helps being available for school districts through Ed.gov.
ServiceWire.org, the Youth Service America website, which has posted the White House press release, has received positive comments concerning the speech along with inquiries from entire school districts on how to simulcast the speech throughout their entire districts. The on-line press release states that the speech can be viewed by going to Whitehouse.gov on the September 8th at 1 p.m. EDT.
The news of the educational speech was first broken via childhood reporter Damon Weaver. Weaver, a 10 year old reporter who has previously interviewed Joe Biden on the campaign trail also recently interviewed President Obama. During this interview the President made an announcement stating, “On September 8th when young people around the country are about to go back to school I’m going to be making a big speech to young people around the country about the importance of education; about the importance of staying in school; how we want to improve our education system and why it’s so important for the country. So I hope everybody tunes in.”
Many conservative and disheartened liberal parents alike are angry over the President being allowed to make a speech to their children without their personal oversight. In efforts to keep their children from what they fear will be harmful, inaccurate or manipulative speech, many parents have vowed to keep their children home from school on September 8th.
Some of the complaints via blogs and online media sources include the following from Docstoc.com, which has posted the educational document that goes along with the upcoming speech:
“Pretty scary stuff if you understand the New World Order agenda”
“In think it’s great and important that the President is talking to our kids about the importance of staying in school and getting an education.”
“There is no reason for the President, or any political figure, to address our children without their parents present. If the goal of the speech is education then why isn’t the text of the speech available before the speech?”
“The potential for abuse here is great.”
“For those of you who opposed President Bush’s policies and philosophies, how would you have reacted if he had wanted to do such a thing? How would the media have reacted?...We need to keep politics out of our schools.”
“Not my child!”
“I’m taking a sick day and keeping my kiddos home. I hope so many people join me in this that the schools and offices are empty.”
“(I speak) as a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ…Why are you keeping your kids home from school? They will not see Christ in your insecurity or your derogatory comments.”
Coming on the heels of the celebrity-filled video made earlier this year titled,         “I Pledge”, many parents are unwilling to send their children to school for fear of what their children will be asked to pledge to President Obama. In this video, while many beautiful promises and goals are outlined to take care of the community, neighbors and the planet, it also includes the statement, “I pledge to be of service to Barack Obama” and wraps up with, “What’s your pledge?” and “I pledge to be a servant to our President…and to all mankind.”
Likening the video and this educational speech to propaganda similar to past historical Communist movements in Germany, Russia and North Korea, many parents state they are unwilling to take the chance or give the White House the benefit of the doubt where their children are concerned.
Is the school classroom the place for a Presidential speech? Should the schools be sticking with current events and bi-partisan teaching? Do you feel there is harm in allowing the President to make a speech that so widely canvasses and targets all children across the U.S.? Are you sending your kids on September 8th?
Unsure of why some parents are concerned and why they liken the Obama pledges and praises to Communism? Watch the videos below.
