Culture Shock at the Millennium Stage

October 29, 4:07 AM
by Veronica Miller, D.C. Dance Examiner

The city's most prominent hip-hop dance troupe hits the stage this Saturday (Nov. 1) at the Kennedy Center.

Culture Shock D.C. is the Washington chapter of an international organization working to promote hip-hop dance and performance in communities around the world. The group plays host to showcases and competitions throughout the year in the metro area, and its members have appeared in film, on television, and on national tours.

The group just returned from the organization's International Choreographer's Showcase in Atlanta. This Saturday's hourlong show at the Millennium Stage will  include a number of medleys, as well as performances by the company's teen and children's groups -- Future Shock and Mini Shock . The performance is part of the Multicultural Children's Book Festival.

The show is free of charge and starts promptly at 6 p.m. Be sure to arrive early and snag a good seat.

And if the performance  so moves you, you can experience Culture Shock for yourself in the company's weekly classes at the CityDance Center at Strathmore in Bethesda and at Contradiction Dance in Takoma Park, Maryland.
