We have fallen down the rabbit hole and are now living in a world of madness, my friends. Down is up, black is white, dogs and cats are living together ... it's chaos. The Washington Nationals have won two straight games.
All right, so it's not that dramatic, and it had to happen at some point. It's still nice to see, and still a surprise. It's enough of a surprise that when a fan asked Jason Bergmann for his hat after the game, an incredulous Bergmann replied, "Are you kidding? Two in a row! This is my lucky hat! I'm never taking this off."
Yes, friends, two wins in a row have prompted Jason Bergmann to wear his hat for eternity. 'Tis the apocalypse for sure.
Not much to say about this game that hasn't been said other places, except to say that in attendance, Joel Hanrahan's escape from disaster was far more shocking than thrilling. I was pretty much sure he would blow it after that leadoff walk. So it was nice to see him and the rest of the bullpen pick up Shairon Martis and the offense after a strong performance. Well done.
However, I'm getting sick of this rain. My first attempt at attending a game this year was rained out, and last night's was delayed an hour. I was singing Travis in my head as that massive thunderstorm passed over the stadium from about 6:30-6:45 p.m. How about we get a real spring already? I didn't move to DC for the bone-chilling winters and stifling summers.
Switching gears, this Elijah Dukes fine is getting out of hand. It's a $500 fine, people - the Nats may as well have given Dukes a time-out in the corner with the dunce cap on. It's chump change. It looks fairly bad on the team for fining a player who was 5 minutes late coming from a speech to Little Leaguers, but Dukes will look a whole lot worse if he makes that Little League pay his fine, after they already paid him an appearance fee. I don't like this story at all - no one comes out looking good, not even the Little League officials who thought it was a grand idea to get Elijah "You dead, dawg" Dukes to speak to its impressionable kids. I'm sure they could have found a player to bring in who was a little less wife-threateny than Dukes.
