Dunkers targeting Greg Oden
Forget the surgically repaired knee, Greg Oden might want to worry about protecting another body part -- his face.
Six games into his professional career, it seems that Oden already has a target on his back, or should I say, head.
A new bet is slowly circulating around the league: Dunk on the 7-foot man-child and win a cash prize.
Before Wednesday’s preseason game with the Portland Trailblazers, new Los Angeles Clipper Ricky Davis had
a bet for three of his younger teammates: $500 for the first player among Eric Gordon, DeAndre Jordan and Al Thornton to slam over Oden. (via Los Angeles Times)
Davis threw it down: $500 for dunking on Oden.
"I'll leave it up to you all three," he said.
To be fair, Davis’ idea wasn’t completely original. Days earlier, Mikki Moore of the Sacramento Kings paid Kevin Martin $1,000 after the two had bet that
Martin couldn’t dunk on Oden.
The three Clippers players failed to capitalize on the bet (surprise, surprise) on Wednesday, leaving Oden safe from being posterized for at least one game.
Still, this has the makings of some real promising gambling opportunities as the season progresses. Which I’m sure is going to go over well with David Stern.
What’s next: $250 for beating Chris Paul to a loose ball, $400 for rejecting Yao Ming or $600 for crossing-up Kobe? Ahhh, the possibilities.
