Thursday was day four of the 40th Annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and the first day of the second weekend. Thursday is traditionally "kids day" where many of the local schools bring their kids. Fittingly one of the bands featured in the Jazz Tent was the Louis Armstrong Summer Jazz Camp Band with special guests Kidd Jordan and Clyde Kerr Jr.
Later in the day George Wein brought his Newport All-stars to the Jazz Tent. The band featured Randy Brecker, Jimmy Cobb, Esperanza Spalding and more. If you don't know the history of George Wein do yourself a favor and do some research. That man is responsible for so much that we enjoy today.
One of the most anticipated sets on the Acura stage was The Meter Men. Three quarters of one of the greatest bands to come out of New Orleans or anywhere else. George Porter Jr, Zigaboo Modeliste & Leo Nocentelli laid down the grooves that kept the crowd moving for the entire set.
