Day two of the 40th annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival once again was blessed with great weather to greet the large crowds. With so much to do and hear some carbs were needed to start the day so I headed over for a Jazz Fest favorite, Crawfish Monica. For the uninitiated Crawfish Monica is spiral pasta and crawfish tails in a wonderfully seasoned pink sauce. Often imitated and never duplicated, no Jazz Fest is completed without it.
The music on Saturday was phenomenal once again. One band you never want to miss at the Fairgrounds is the Rebirth Brass Band. Celebrating 26 years together this year, their Jazz Fest shows are legendary. On Saturday they were joined by original member Kermit Ruffins and the overflow crowd was a sea of waving hands and dancing feet.
Local heros Galactic tore up the Gentilly Stage with help from Corey Henry and Shamarr Allen. They closed their set with the title track of their latest CD "From the Corner to the Block" as Corey and Shamarr crowd surfed their way all the way to the soundboard and back.
Folk icon Pete Seeger is celebrating his 90th birthday this year and his set on the Acura Stage was special. Preservation Hall's Ben Jaffe joined Seeger and company during their afternoon set.
Wilco, Erykah Badu, Johnny Winter and others closed out their respective stages on another fantastic day.
