Satire is an art form that can make you laugh and cry and draw a relationship between the past and present. Satire in DC can often put a very real twist to the world around us,dog & pony dc seeks to do just that. The company describes itself as "a developing ensemble of artists that takes what [they] know. . . and shakes up, reorganizes, and turn them upside down to create innovative performances that are contemporary and viseral" They are a non-profit organization and provided tickets on a Pay-What-You-Can basis (make a donation).

This weekend, May 8th and 9th, the company will be performing a show based on the play "Mother Courage and her Children" written by Bertolt Brecht in 1939. The original was based on the thirty years wars and followed a woman who provided bread to the solders from a cart. She traveled with the solders and received the name courage for her efforts to obtain food in the dangerous situations she was surrounded by. She is focused on survival, her own and her children. The story plays with the idea that courage sometimes requires cowardess and was written in to show the darkness of Fascism. I am looking forward to see how dog & pony dc has adapted and altered this story. Courage a political theater revival will be performed at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop and begins at 7:30. You can also check out the performance blog for Courage posted by the dog & pony. See you at the show!
