Just as turkey and pumpkin pie can be a November tradition, so is finding a good seasonal job. This is the time of year that many retailers roll out the red carpet for people looking to work part time hours, night and weekends. Many companies budget for extra help and this is the prime week where hiring managers are on the hunt for new employees and fresh faces.

Know who is hiring- Hit the mall and department stores first. Common positions will include stock loaders and unloaders, register clerks, customer service agents and floor sales help. Positions range in pay from $6.75 an hour to $9.50 an hour with previous experience. The shifts sought are typically nights, weekends and after business hours. Skilled laborers such as fork lift operators can be in high demand as warehouses become heavy with merchandise.

Call the staffing agencies- Traditionally, fourth quarter is the busiest for staffing agencies. Many large volume warehouses and manufacturers providing goods to retail stores hit peak production. These organizations staff seasonal thru local agencies. The Miami market is saturated with employment service and Randstad and Manpower are the largest. If at first a position is taken, call back and ask to be placed on the availability list. Many people simply don't show up on the day of assignment and being a backup puts you in a good position.

Don't overlook the food industry- In addition to the holidays, this is Miami's tourist season, Many restaurants, bars, pubs and fast food restaurants find the October thru March time frame to be their busy months. Take advantage of the industry need and to make extra money long past the holiday rush of November and December. The extra bonus is the tips!

Hotels and Resorts- Good help is always hard to find and large facilities most certainly have turnover. If your open to nights and weekends this is the area for you. Positions from housekeeping to front desk are needed when the operation is 24/7. Many new hotels such as the refurbished Fountain Bleu in Miami and the W hotel in Ft. Lauderdale are good places to start looking first.

Movie Theaters and Strip Clubs- Yes, even during a recession the masses still need to be entertained. The holidays are a traditional time frame for top movie releases with people needed to work as ushers and concession stand servers. Adult entertainment clubs also find this time of year to be lucrative with everything from after hour holiday parties, tourist season and the economy as reasons to need additional help. Positions such as line cooks, servers, dancers and bouncers are hired to provide the coverage needed to run a busy club.

Being realistic about hourly salary and expectations of temporary work can make for extra money and a fun experience. Knowing where to look will make you a smarter job seeker. Applying during the early November time frame will allow you to gain not only better shift hour potential but a chance to be trained and ready to start work when needed most.
