The new cast for season 9 of Dancing With The Stars includes Chuck Liddell, who is often credited (with fellow UFC fighter, Randy Couture) for bringing mixed martial arts into the mainstream.
Liddell has an extensive background in Kempo and Koei-Kan Karate and is considered mostly a ‘stand up’ fighter (as opposed to a ‘ground’ fighter). It will no doubt be very interesting to see if a karate and kickboxing background translate into dance.
Dancers usually take to martial arts well, having already acquired the hip strength, balance and flexibility that many of the moves require, although they usually have to work to gain power, if the opposite is also true, Liddell could impress on Dancing with the Stars.
The ABC show will premier on Sept. 21 and will also include celebrity entertainers; singers Mya and Macy Gray and Aaron Carter; actors Ashley Hamilton, Melissa Joan Hart and Debi Mazar; models Joanna Krupa and Kathy Ireland; reality stars Mark Dacascos and Kelly Osbourne; entertainer Donny Osmond; and former Republican Majority Leader Tom DeLay.
Other athletes joining Liddell on the show will be snowboarder Louie Vito; Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin; and former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin.
Liddell already has an impressive fight record with the most wins by a fighter 16, (tied with Matt Hughes) as well as the most KO/TKO wins, with 10, fans will surely be waiting to see if he is as impressive on the dance floor.
