Sakina was raised Muslim by American parents who converted to Islam decades before her birth. She has a bachelor's degree in linguistics and Arabic/Islamic studies, and is pursuing graduate studies. She works at the Islamic center, and accumulates dozens of side jobs as they present themselves. Her written works have been published, and she has been featured in Newsweek and on ABC News.
