According to Breitbart.com, Al-Qaida's leader-in-the-flesh, Ayman al-Zawahri, issued a statement that runs off as a best-of list of fantastical imaginings and ugly rhetoric.
Calling Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice and Barack Obama "house negroes," al-Zawahri proved himself a uniter. Progressives have been calling Ms. Rice that epithet for years. Colin Powell less so since he expressed regret for his role in the Iraq Campaign. I've heard Mr. Obama called many things, but "house negro" is a new one.
Brittle, silly, thin-skinned, naive, a tin-pot poseur philosopher king, a moral coward on the question of race, an unoriginal thinker who is a mere product of his Marxist tutors and parents, yes. But "house negro?" That's right off the press.
Among other dumb things Zawahri claimed:
"America has put on a new face, but its heart full of hate, mind drowning in greed, and spirit which spreads evil, murder, repression and despotism continue to be the same as always."
Let's take a look at these.
Greed: America has spent crazy money in Iraq and Afghanistan. So far, despite the sad, lowly theories of the Truthers and Progressives, not one length of pipe has been laid in Afghanistan to suck out all that delicious, sweet crude. (Of love.) The CIA has yet to get into the opium business, gun running or human trafficking.
In point of fact, Iraq's Gross Domestic Product wouldn't amount to enough resources to power the U.S. economy for more than 3 days, and that's if we sucked every last drop of oil out, stole the labor of every worker and ate every chicken and grain of rice – all at zero cost.
The imperialism argument, which is what we're talking about, has no useful basis. At least in anything that one can account for.
Spreading evil, murder, repression and despotism? Not so much. The Iraqi government does nothing evil, neither is it despotic. It may be bickering and somewhat incompetent (as though ours were much more useful), but it doesn't repress anyone except people who want to spread chaos and killing.
Under America's aegis, the Iraqi economy has accelerated; Iraqis finally have a chance at real hope in their lives. The region finally has a chance at real change - away from the theocracies or the strong-man dictatorships.
Did America create a vacuum when it ousted the mass-murdering Saddam Hussein? Yes. But it wasn't America that filled it with bloodshed. If you're of the mind who thinks it is responsible, I'd love to know where all the headlines about all the bombings of Chinese buses and marketplaces have been hiding. Because the Tibetans seem to have chosen something much different than the Islamists, despite facing a real despotism.
As to the last argument, I don't think Zawahri needs to worry much. Mr. Obama is stacking his deck with plenty of advisors who think the best thing for Israel is to surrender or put itself in a position of serious weakness. Time will tell.
Osama Bin Laden, as usual, could not be reached for comment. Nor could any images be shown that clearly prove he is still alive.

One last: today is the 7th International People's Buy Ammo Day. There's a box or two of beautiful, shiny Liberty Bullets waiting for you at your local gun store. Don't stand them up.
