Over the last few days, 'Sugar' Shane Mosley has been far more vocal than many can ever remember him during his illustriuos career.
After calling out Floyd Mayweather jr., belittling his pending fight against Juan Manuel Marquez, Mosley has hit the airwaves yet again, only this time directing comments to the sports top dawg!
Truth be known, Mosley is the best suited for a fight against Pacquiao, but the odds of it happening aren't very good ones.
Coming off of arguably his best performance in his career - (with the first ODH fight being a close tie) - many would expect to hear his name tossed around with a number of other potential foes, but for some odd reason, Mosley's phone hasn't rang and that doesn't appear set to change.
Unfortunately for Mosley, the beating that he gave one of the sports toughest figures put him in a very high risk, low reward category. It's great when a fighter like that can perform that way and put cheeks-in-seats, but Mosley - despite his great talent - hasn't been much of a draw, making those efforts somewhat vain.
Surely Pacqiuao isn't afraid to face Mosley, but with Mayweather and Cotto leading the pack, there seems to be no entry gate for the 'Sugar' man.
The only conceivable way that Mosley gets the nod is if Cotto and Floyd loses, or if Mayweather wins but either doesn't agree to the purse demands or doesn't agree to take a fight by October 17th (less than 3 months after the Marquez fight), which is Pacquiao's penciled in date with HBO. Either way, Arum doesn't sound interested in the fight at all, stating in the past that he has zero interest in putting Manny in the ring with Mosley.
Another potential issue is the fact that it's looking more and more like Pacquiao's bid for a congressional position in his country will be the reason in which he walks away from the sport....and soon.
These talks have been heating up for a while and confirmation of the reports lead many to wonder how much longer will the current pound-for-pound champ stay in the drivers seat?
A Mosley/Pacquiao fight would be the best fight to be made for the simple fact that Floyd will make it a strategical showdown, and Cotto would add an element of intrigue, but Mosley and Manny are two fighters that fight every second of every round and would be in an all out war from bell one to bell rung! Definitely a fitting way to put it because I don't see that fight going the distance.
With many options already on the table, there seems to be yet another now that has spoken loud and clear, making it even easier considering that he's the only of the three willing to go down to 143lbs.
Will Pacquiao fall for the sweet bait, or express a bitter response to a man who may in fact be more eligible for the job?
Only time will tell.
