In May of 2007, Oscar found himself in another fight that broke all sorts of records in the sport, as he and now retired ex-pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. took part in the fight aptly dubbed "The World Awaits."
Despite becoming the largest-grossing fight in the history of the sport (PPV buys and gates), the fight itself failed to deliver, as many fight fans were disappointed that the knockouts predicted were far from what actually materialized.
This fight between Oscar and Manny Pacquiao has its own obstacles to overcome, as Oscar has been widely criticized for opting to face a fighter who typically fights nearly 20 pounds lighter than his normal weight rather than facing top contenders closer to his own weight division.
The promotional tour has kicked off and has already made stops in Houston, Chicago, New York City, San Francisco, and San Antonio. The final stop will come today in Los Angeles, which serves as the hometown of Oscar De La Hoya.
HBO will also produce another 4-part installment of the emmy award winning "24/7" reality series which is the most comprehensive pre-fight programming available in the sport, chronicling the trainers as they get ready for war.
Check your local listing for the "24/7" programming times.
The fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao will take place December 6th in Las Vegas.
