On Wednesday night, there's a handful of great shows in New York, most notably Ghostface Killa and guests playing at the B.B. King Blues Club and Grill (237 W. 42nd St. between Seventh and Eighth Avenues) starting at 9 P.M.; tickets range from $26 - $30. Ghostface recently released the excellent album "Ghostdini: Wizard of Poetry in the Emerald City," and has been on a solid creative streak for a few years now.
Also on Wednesday night, Dan Auerbach, singer/guitarist of the Black Keys, will be at Webster Hall (126 E. 11th St. between Third and Fourth Avenues) in the East Village at 7 P.M. for an even $25. Auerbach released a solo album titled "Keep It Hid" a few months back, on which he plays almost every instrument, with the exception of the help from other Akron-area musicians. Also, be sure to show up for the opening acts, Justin Townes Earle who, like his father Steve Earle, is soaked in old country; and Jessica Lea Mayfield, who made her album "With Blasphemy So Heartfelt" with Auerbach.
British band The XX, who make sulky lounge-style tunes with traded boy-girl vocals, will be at the Bowery Ballroom (6 Delancey St. between Bowery and Christie St.) in the Lower East Side at 8 P.M.; unfortunately the show is already sold out.
Bad taste comedian Neil Hamburger will be at the Knitting Factory Brooklyn (361 Metropolitan Ave. at Havemeyer St.) in Williamsburg, Brooklyn at 8 P.M. for $12. Hamburger will be promoting his "Western Music & Variety" DVD.
