When Michael Phelps opted for a skimpy Speedo over a full-body swimsuit, nobody complained. And with good reason, because let's face it--his face isn't his real money maker.

Male stars, just like their female counterparts, are being lusted--and--ridiculed for their physiques. The right swimwear can make a celebrity the hottie-of-the-moment, or a long running joke.

"Cosmopolitan" magazine recently explored the "10 Best and Worst Celebrity Speedo Moments," so I present to you a more comprehensive version of the stars in their Speedos. Here are the rules: No movie stills, no modeling shoots--the stars must have used conscious and independent decision making in their attire.

So here we go:

John Mayer - It was an impromptu moment aboard a John Mayer fan cruise when Mayer decided to wear a neon green Borat-inspired mankini and jog around the deck. The man's a publicity machine.

Prince William - The 6'3" prince revealed his lean, swimmer's physique at 21 years old when he joined the squad of a water polo team back in 2004.

Ricky Martin - Gay rumors? What gay rumors? There's absolutely nothing gay about wearing a Speedo--or hanging out with your really attractive male friends while you both frolic on the beach, smoke cigarettes and play games, all while wearing Speedos. And nothing says 'male bonding' like a day of full body waxes.

Jason Mraz - Singer/songwriter Jason Mraz raved about his new raw/uncooked food diet on his MySpace page and revealed photos of his tight bod in a Speedo to prove it.

Jean-Claude Van Damme - Cult martial arts film icon JCVD is a total narcicist, sex maniac and bad actor. If he wasn't straight, he would be Michael Lucas. The five-times divorced star will play himself in a biopic to be released later this year. Above, he is on the beach in a Speedo alongside fellow craptacular actor Lorenzo Lamas.

David Beckham - Nobody can make Armani underwear or Speedos look as good as soccer stud David Beckham can. So what is Becks hiding under there? Syndicated radio host Kyle Sandilands admits he had a peak when the two shared a loo in a Los Angeles nightclub. "Somebody comes in behind me, and I hear a soft voice say 'Hello, how are you?' I turned around and think: 'Holy s***! It's David Beckham!'," Sandilands said. "Let's just say he looks like he's got it going on."


Orlando Bloom - "Lord of the Rings" star wore board shorts poolside, but got crafty and hiked it up to mimic the Speedo look.


Jim Carey - Jim Carey decided to switch swimwear with longtime sweetheart Jenny McCarthy while strolling along the beach.

George Michael - An almost unrecognizable George Michael was once in good shape back when he was in the closet. And nothing says straight-acting male like a skin tight white Speedo and a hand-on-hip, Tyra-style pose.

Harrison Ford - "Indiana Jones" stud still looks ultra macho and hot even with a Speedo.

Caron Kresley - "How to Look Good Naked" host shows how to look okay in a Speedo.

Rod Stewart - The "Do you Think I'm Sexy?" singer finally gets an answer to the question his song beacons: Not in Speedos.

Steven Tyler - Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is a Speedon't (bah dum bum psh)

Arnold Schwarzenegger - Governator Arnold looked good in a Speedo 20 years ago, but let's just hope he says hasta la vista to these skimpies and opts for some board shorts next time he hits the beach.


Jason Stratham - "The Transporter" and "The Italian Job" star was a member of the British Olympic diving team in the 1980s and finished 12th in the World Championships in 1992 before pursuing a career as a model for French Connection, and later became an action flick star through his association with director Guy Ritchie who cast him in "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels."
