It's the season for being indoors. And whenever I get cooped up I begin to see all the little home improvements I could and should be making. The best and easiest way to transform a space is to do it with color. Even just splashing on a new coat of white will help to clean-up or freshen up a drab and dreary room.
The house I live in is quite large, so I have been transforming it room by room into a lovely non-toxic oasis. My most recent project was my bedroom. I wanted to do something dramatic, but not over-the-top, and somewhere I got the idea that it needed to be purple.
The paint I used in my room was by a company called Yolo Colorhouse. The company was started by two interior paint designers that saw a need to not use toxic chemicals in their projects both for their clients and for their own health.
They have a very refined pallet of colors to choose from, which is good for someone like me, who loves almost any color untill I get it up on the walls, and then that "cotton candy pink" isn't cute, but completely overwhelming. The colors are all designed to work well together, making it nearly impossible to have a bad color combo. For my project the purple I used was called "Petal .07" which I handsomely paired with" Air .03" creating the exact mood I wanted.
Beyond having colors that work, they also really don't smell like paint. When you are looking to re-paint the non-toxic way there are certain lables you want to look for.
Green Seal Certified- the standard for any new LEED certified buildings as well as general low environmental impacts
Zero- VOC- Means that the paint paint base meets the criteria for emitting next to no VOC's
Non-toxic- Means that the paint can be used around pregnant ladies and children.
The paint was pleasant to use, went on smooth and covered extremely well. I highly reccomend it. To find a dealer in your area go here.
