The California State Legislature rejected California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's plan to extend offshore oil and natural gas drilling leases, off the coast of Santa Barbara, which would have overturned California's ban on new offshore oil and gas drilling to raise only $100 million in the face of California's $24 billion, 2009-2010 budget shortfall.  However, the legislature is now considering two proposals to tax oil and gas extraction at the wellhead in California. 

On Thursday, 06.18.2009, I spoke with Nora Barrows Friedman, co-host of KPFA-Berkeley's Flashpoints Investigative Radio, about both, and about oil wars and oil taxes:
