Macaroni salad and potato salad for the 4th of July Denver garden party

Potato salad and macaroni salad are fabulous additions to the recipes for your 4th of July Denver garden party. Keep recipes simple for the 4th of July garden party so the hostess can enjoy the fun along with everyone else. These potato salad and macaroni salad recipes can be made at the same time and still taste surprisingly different by altering just a few simple ingredients.

The potato salad and macaroni salad recipes for your 4th of July Denver garden party will serve about 10 people. To increase the amount of potato salad or macaroni salad keep in mind you will need about an extra ½ cup of cut, cooked potatoes per extra serving and about ½ cup cooked macaroni per extra serving as well.

Place two large cooking pots filled ¾ full with water on the stove top. The potatoes for the 4th of July potato salad will be cooked in one. The macaroni noodles for the 4th of July garden party macaroni salad will be cooked in the other. The water will have to boil before placing the macaroni noodles into it. The potatoes can be placed into the water before it is heated to a boil.

Turn both pots of water on high heat. Peel 8 – 10 potatoes for the 4th of July potato salad first and then cut into bite sized pieces and place in the pot. The small pieces will cook faster than whole potatoes. You will need a 16 ounce bag of small shell macaroni for the 4th of July macaroni salad. Six to eight hardboiled eggs are needed for each salad. Cook them right in the pots along with the potatoes and macaroni.

Watch the pots so they don't boil over while the potatoes, macaroni and eggs are cooking. Reduce heat as needed but keep at a slow rolling boil. The potatoes for the 4th of July potato salad are done when a fork will easily penetrate them. Do not overcook or you will have mashed potato 4th of July salad. Follow package directions for macaroni.

Remove both pans from heat when done. Strain the potatoes and eggs for the 4th of July potato salad and rinse until cool. Follow the same procedure with the macaroni and eggs for the Denver garden party macaroni salad. Let all the ingredients cool, then pour the potatoes and macaroni into two separate large bowls. Peel and chop the eggs and put half with the potatoes and half with the macaroni.

To the 4th of July garden party potato salad add ½ cup chopped green onion, ½ cup chopped green pepper, 1 cup relish, ¼ cup brown mustard and enough mayonnaise to coat everything well (about ¾ cup). To the 4th of July garden party macaroni salad add ½ cup chopped green onion, ½ cup chopped green pepper, one 8 ounce jar sliced green olives and enough mayonnaise to coat everything (about 1 cup).

Mix both 4th of July Denver garden party salads thoroughly, add salt and pepper to taste. Eat up!
