With the release date of the BlackBerry Tour quickly approaching, let’s take a few moments and give some attention to another BlackBerry phone that hasn’t even hit the manufacturing line yet.
If you haven’t heard about the Onyx, it is basically a combination of the BlackBerry Curve 8900 and the Bold and a really brief spec listing has it including a 3.2MP camera, GPS, WiFi support, a QWERTY keyboard, 480x360 screen resolution and obviously, access to 3G which is becoming standard.
It’s everything good about the two aforementioned phones packed into one.
Now, in some of the leaked photos and information that has been circulating the web, the Onyx was apparently set to have the trackball which some people love and some people hate. If you have ever used one, you know how it can get worn down, infested with grime so it becomes hard to use and ultimately non-functioning and in need of a replacement.
Unless you take really good care of your phones, but who does that?
In new photos posted at Gizmodo by way of BlackBerry Underground, it appears that the Onyx has dropped the trackball in favor of the optical trackpad. The new addition should make maneuvering around the phone interface much easier and on a lesser note, add a more appealing look.
It’s hard to tell right now how this news will affect people who pre-ordered or were waiting to buy the BlackBerry Tour because the Onyx hasn’t even begun to be mass produced.
It also doesn’t have a release date and although there are discussions taking place speculating that it more than likely will be released in the fall of this year, you have to take those rumors with a grain of salt. Nothing is for sure until RIM lets us in on their secret.
Be sure to check back here once a more concrete release date becomes known.
