In response to the backlash over AT&T’s plan for upgrading to the new iPhone 3G S, the company has recently released a new tidbit that should soothe over some fans that were upset about the extra costs.
If you bought an iPhone on or after the magic date of July 11th, 2008, you probably know what that means. For those who aren’t in the know, it means that you have to pay an additional $200 for the 3G S because it hasn’t been a full year since you signed up with AT&T.
This makes the already expensive phone a new kind of beast.
A very pricy one.
So to offset that, AT&T has made some concessions in another cost department.
Sometime later this summer, they will begin to offer a text message plan that includes free MMS messaging. Now that doesn’t sound like much, but if you have been looking forward to extensively using the new camera and the video camera, you also probably planned on heavily abusing the new MMS text messaging function.
A little bit of a consolation prize, but hey, it’s better than nothing.
Speaking of prizes, according to some rumors floating around the web today, pre-orders of the iPhone 3G S sold through Apple have apparently already begun shipping.
According to Appleinsider, one user has already received his tracking number for his 32GB 3G S through email. Of course, this means that he or she was probably one of the first people on the online Apple store the day it was announced and they should be rewarded for their obvious tenacity.
This means that it is possible that users who were quick on the gun potentially might get their phones before retail stores open their shelves on Friday morning.
And amidst all of this news, don’t forget that OS 3.0 will be coming out on Wednesday, so if you are perfectly happy with the phone you have now, you are probably getting excited instead of worrying about when your new piece of hardware will come.
That must be a relief.
