Last night I wrote about Livescribe’s Pulse Smartpen and purposefully didn’t include one of its newest features because of how much it differed from the topic at hand. So I will now enlighten you on yet another innovation the pen brings to the table that truly is one-of-a-kind.
On May 5th, Livescribe announced the release of a social media tool that I don’t think has gotten the press it truly deserves. That tool, in conjunction with the Smartpen, allows the user to embed handwritten notes or posts along with audio recordings as Flash videos online.
Podcasts, tweets and now:
Pencasts.
Remember the name.
Pencasts basically act like all of the aforementioned ways of communicating online. Using the Smartpen, you are able to share anything you draw, write or take note of on your Dot Paper. On top of that, any audio that you recorded with the microphone syncs up with what you have written and is also sharable with others.
It is extremely simple to upload what you have written or recorded using Livescribe’s online community. Once you upload your Pencast you will have the choice to either make it private for friends and family or public so that other community members can copy the HTML code and embed your flash video on their blog or website.
You can also share the Pencasts with friends on Facebook. So if, for example, you missed a day of class, your professor’s voice will accompany the notes your friend sent you thereby helping you better prepare for an exam or midterm. Or, if you missed a business meeting because you were out of the country, a co-worker could take notes with diagrams and immediately get it to you online for you to look over.
That is, of course, if you didn’t get fired.
And if doing it either of these ways doesn’t suit you?
You can make your Pencasts into PDF files and send them out over email.
Who would have thought the pen would start as a feather, migrate to ink filled tubes, adapt to be used in space, and end up recording your thoughts for the world to see?
Well, here we are. Take advantage of it.
