I don't know about you, but I always dress a little more smartly on Wednesdays than any other weekday. I think it's just my way of combating the hump day blues. Another way to fight the daemons of drear is the common fantasy-weekend-plans daydream, and who hasn't been guilty of that? With the intention of revitalizing your potentially sagging Wednesday morale, I've come up with a list of events to fuel your desk-bound daydreams for some time to come.
Thursday, June 4th: because, let's be honest -- Thursday's the new Friday, especially if you live in my neighborhood (I'm looking at you, Beretta).
After you mosey on over to the opening of jewelry and accessories boutique, Covet, head back downtown for the Taxi CDC sample sale happening at Shotwell (36 Geary) from 6-9pm. Even if Taxi CDC doesn't tickle your fancy, you're sure to walk out with a new favorite local designer or fabulous vintage something-or-other.
Friday, June 4th:
Fulfill your culture quotient (and look ultra-hip doing it) at the opening reception of Space Gallery's Art Muze. When you're done ogling the offerings of 15 up-and-coming visual artists, stop by the bar for a tasty beverage and check out the original clothing for sale (1141 Polk St., 21+)
Saturday, June 5th:
Sleep in and expurge your inevitable hangover with a leisurely walk through the Union Street Eco-Urban Festival. Shop guilt-free for clothing, accessories, and crafts in the new eco- section of the 33rd annual street fair and refuel at one of many gourmet food booths. Save the environment (and your patience for SF street parking) by biking or taking public transit, and then rest your weary soles at one of the festival's bistro-style cafes (Sat. & Sun., Union St. between Gough and Steiner, starts at noon). Come nightfall, although not strictly fashion related, gather your elfin friends and glam it up Shakespeare style at Cell Space's A Midsummer Night's Roller Disco (2050 Bryant St., $5 for the enchantingly bedecked, $10 for regular folk).
Sunday, June 6th:
Douglas Adams may have dubbed it the long, dark teatime of the soul, but Sundays in San Francisco have much more to offer the true sartorial devotee. Hobnob with San Francisco's society folk at the annual Kids Rock! benefit fashion show (tickets $50-150, see website for details), or spend a relaxing afternoon elbow-deep in a musty piles of vintage (Sundays being my favorite day for a thrift). For those of you not yet familiar with San Francisco's tremendously popular and relatively inexpensive vintage scene, check out Clothes Contact, Painted Bird, and Nasty Gal Vintage(for all you lazy home shoppers).
Be sure to check back for news of upcoming Indiemart, Maker, and Chillin' weekend fair events as well as more fashion event roundups to cure your hump day blues.
