Ahh, Seattle in the summertime, unquestionably some of the most glorious, beautiful and inspiring weather anywhere. With 8 (+) months of gloom and doom, these fleeting summer months make it all worthwhile. Once it hits, it is a perpetual case of Spring Fever; everyone wants to BBQ and get scantily clad, have silly fun and make questionable choices with little to no consequences. With all this energy and merriment and (near) nudity plus a large contingency of beach at your disposal, where oh wear do you go to spot the best and scandalous men’s beach fashion?
Madison Beach is the safest bet for the best (and least) in beach fashion. A small little gem at the Lake Washington end of Madison Park tucked at the foot of some great restaurants and bars. A mostly grass beach overlooks a quite impressive diving dock where folks show off their flips into dives routine. There are a few grocery stores within walking distance to provide provisions such as Funions and 40's to enhance the disco type atmosphere. Word to the kiddies, use a paper bag cover said 40; we wouldn’t want to flaunt anything illegal now would we? Mad Beach can get more than a bit overcrowded at times, but hell, it’s the beach and the more people to watch the better people watching there is, no?
At Madison, families mingle easily with college kids, tattooed hipsters and Mad Park elders and old schoolers; all beautiful walks of life are represented in this sunny little utopia. There is far more sugary eye candy that most any other beach in the area, and it can be quite sexy. The less clothes the better is the fashion de jour. Patterns such as polka dots and itsy bitsy bikinis adorn most of the princesses who rule this kingdom and a heavy dose of American Apparel and H&M is apparently what the doctor went and ordered. Men’s fashion is a smidgen more out of spirits and it’s more or less stereotypical at best: our fraternal brethren broskis are usually repp’d by long board shorts circa Sugar Ray and Smashmouth, with hipsters jamming short athletic shorts or tiny vintage 60's swimsuits and some more adventurous joy boys rocking the smallest in designer short shorts. Local fashionista Beth O’Leary is a mega proponent of these men’s fashion as “the short shots on the men make it easier when you have to sit on some random dude’s lap when its ultra busy.” Stunnin' looks and bangin' bodies are commonplace but these are no elitists; everyone is welcome and can enjoy the party.
Of course, the city’s best beach is....well, I’ll call it Ruby Tuesday. It is the Seattle’s most amazing actual beach, noted for it's pristine waters and peaceful seclusion -- I've been sworn to keep her secret. The women are beautiful and carefree and the men are hot and fancy footed and the beer and tequila flow like a mountain stream. If you can find it, God bless you and keep your mouth shut.
