The old chicken makes good soup! Of course the news of the day, week and season is Valentino Rossi's ninth World Title in motorcycle racing.
Watching racers take off from the wet line at the Malaysian GP was akin to dropping a bunch of tiny bebes on the ground and trying to follow just one--there wasn't much fans could do but hold our breath until the riders broke away from each other and the heavy spray of the wet track.
After Stoner took the lead from a 92-lb. twig who shall remain unnamed, the focus went to the middle of the pack where Nicky Hayden was riding very aggressively against Lorenzo; a couple links back, Rossi watched and waited...biding his time.
Rossi and Lorenzo finally pulled past The Kentucky Kid, with Rossi ahead. Just as the world was collectively thinking it odd to have Rossi take the 2009 title, yet miss the podium, Dovi's back tire slid out from under him and, at once, all seemed well with the world under the number 46. Rossi was well on his way to speaking from the podium regarding his ninth World Title, seven from the premier-class.
Yahoo! Eurosport reported on the festivities Rossi and his fan club had planned. Family, friends and fans greeted Rossi on the track and handed him a chicken, dressed up in #46 livery, eggs painted with the number nine and a t-shirt with a special message: "The t-shirt and the celebration is called the ‘Gallina Vecchia!' In Italian we say that the old chicken makes good soup, but it's no use for laying eggs. I am old now, 30, but this old hen has made another egg today and now we have nine!” The 2009 MotoGP World Champ commented. “As usual I thought it up at home in Tavullia, together with my fan club, and we had great fun designing the t-shirt and the helmet.”
