Watching the U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team dominate the competition this summer has made me hungry for the NBA season again.

Thankfully the 2008-09 season gets under way Oct. 28 in Los Angeles when the Lakers take on Greg Oden and the Portland Trail Blazers. Makes the Lakers' move to get Josh Powell look good not knowing how ready Andrew Bynum will be to start the season.

New point man Baron Davis and the aging Clippers open the following night against the Lakers in Staples Center.

The first two Lakers games are televised nationally by TNT and ESPN.

Other dates to circle on your Lakers calendar:

Dec. 10: Shaquille “Kobe, tell me how my @$$ taste?” O’Neal and the Suns come to town.

Dec. 14: Ex-Bruin Kevin Love makes his return to L.A. with the T’wolves.

Dec. 25: Santa brings us five nationally televised games, including the Lakers hosting the NBA champion Celtics.

Jan. 19: LeBron James goes up against Olympic teammate Kobe Bryant at Staples.
