Sluggard what in the world is that
Fortitude
Pr 6:6 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!
Pr 6:7 It has no commander, no overseer or ruler,
Pr 6:8 yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.
Pr 6:9 How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep?
Pr 6:10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—
Pr 6:11 and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man.
Solomon uses the example of the ant to teach a very important lesson to us about having “Fortitude” in our life. The ant is constantly on the go for one purpose and that is to find food to eat. When the ant finds food, it is not eaten, but carried back to the nest to provide food or the whole colony of ants. The third lesson of the ant is that weight is no object. The ant can carry an object that weighs far more than its own weight. Distance is no object to the ant, he simply does his job.
Solomon uses the ant to compare to a person who practices the art of laziness. And the English translation of the word that Solomon uses to describe that person is “Sluggard.” The word has been in the English language for over seven hundred years.
God has created us to be actively seeking ways to make a difference in our life and the life of others.
My friend let us leave the word “Sluggard” back in the fourteenth century and actively be about our Father’s business; which is caring for the needs of others.
May you have an enriching Tuesday, that is filled with opportunities to touch someone who is in great need,
