Disney's "Magic" cruise                               by flickrized

In 2011, the "Disney Wonder"will be sailing from Los Angeles to Mexico and for the first time ever, from Vancouver to Alaska. "There are a ton of active outings for families when the ship sails into the different ports of call," explained Cruise and Travel Specialist Pam Harper Horst. "In Mexico, you can snorkle, swim with the dolphins, go four wheeling, and walk around the town and go shopping.  In Alaska, there are zip lines, mountain hikes, trips up to the top of Mt. Juneau and all sorts of trails for hiking, walking and running."

Other Alaskan tours include biking while taking in views of the glaciers, sledding on top of a mountain with the Iditarod dogs--yes the very dogs who run the races through Alaska every year, raft adventures, canoeing, fishing and kayaking.

Cruising makes it easy to stay fit on your days at sea. Like all other Disney ships, the "Wonder" has three sparkling pools, including one for just adults and a bunch of fitness-oriented activities onboard. Passengers can choose from shuffleboard, ping pong, basketball and street hockey. Walkers and runners will love taking in the scenic views from Deck 4 while enjoying the 1/3 mile loop.

Look for a fitness center with cardio and weight machines and group exercise classes. If you're watching what you eat, "spa" choices are offered on the menu as healthier options.

"Since this is the first and only time that Disney will be cruising to Alaska, I expect reservations to sell out very quickly. It may sound silly to plan this far out but the best rates for a Disney cruise are typically when they go on sale, particularly the ones that are out-of-the-ordinary like Alaska," said Horst, who will be up bright and early for first bookings on Monday, September 28.

Make sure to ask about special offers where children 17 and under sail free.
