The Saint Joseph’s men’s basketball team has landed a key recruit for the 2010 class as C.J. Aiken has reportedly made a verbal commitment to play for the Hawks starting in the 2010-2011 season. While there has been no official confirmation from Saint Joseph’s, numerous sources report that Aiken made his verbal commitment over the last couple of days.
Aiken, a Pennsylvania native, has received mixed reviews from recruiting outlets, however one thing that just about every recruiting service has agreed on is his enormous potential. Aiken will likely play the 4 spot in college for the Hawks and will likely make a big impact on the defensive end as a shot-blocker.
Coach Phil Martelli and his staff will also be excited by the prospect of Aiken developing a better low-post game as he builds more bulk to his lean 185 pound frame. For a player his height (Aiken is 6-foot-9), he has a good mid-range game, and a reasonable touch from the outside.
Aiken joins small forward Darius Quarles, who gave the Hawks a verbal commitment in April. Quarles is also regarded as a solid player, as he is an athletic wing forward who also shoots well from the outside. The highest profile recruit in the 2010 class that Saint Joseph’s is in the running for is Langston Galloway, a guard from Louisiana who is known as a pure scorer.
If the Hawks were able to ink a class with Aiken, Quarles, and Galloway, the Hawks would likely garner national attention for bringing in a recruiting class among the best in the nation, especially among non-BCS schools. Just Aiken and Quarles is already a good start, maybe the Hagan Arena, along with all of the upgrades to the facilities in the Fieldhouse will pay dividends even quicker than some would have expected?
