Every year, there are scandals that surround photography and 2008 was no exception. From celebrities to politics to athletics, photography was at the center of attention.
In the celebrity arena, we had the Miley Cyrus photo shoot with Annie Liebovitz, controversial because of the provocative way that the singer was depicted. Now, Cyrus wants to be a photographer. Actress Ann Hathaway also showed up in the headlines as the result of a nude photo scandal.
On the political front, there was no shortage of headlines. From John McCain's photo shoot for The Atlantic (part 1 & part 2), Sarah Palin's unedited Newseweek cover, and now Obama shirtless in Hawaii.
Photoshopped images took centerstage too, though not as much as in the past. A photographer is on trial for fraud in China for fabricating photos of the rare South China tiger.
The 2008 Olympics saw a French swimmer seem to be thrown by the emergence of photos that she never thought would see the light of day.
