Traveling without Fido and need your doggie fix? The Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch in Avon, Colorado, has just what the doctor ordered. Bachelor is the third resident yellow Labrador retriever mascot of the resort’s signature Loan-a-Lab hiking program.

Rescued in October 2008 by the Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor is available for guests to take on hikes or walks in the area. There is no fee for Bachelor’s companionship, however, many guests may make voluntary donations at the concierge desk to benefit the Eagle Valley Humane Society.

He is booked months in advance during the peak seasons,” said John Garth, general manager of the resort.  “Parents and children are always asking to meet Bachelor as soon as they arrive and their interaction with him throughout their stay is so endearing.  He truly makes our guests feel like they are at home” he added.

To celebrate Bachelor’s first summer at the resort, The Ritz-Carlton is waiving its usual $125 per dog-stay-fee from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend.

The Loan-a-Lab hiking program is available by reservation through the resort’s Concierge with times available on Monday through Friday at 9:30 a.m. and on select weekends. Guests may take Bachelor for a 30-minute or one hour hike or snow shoe out the backdoors of The Ritz-Carlton on two designated trails. Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. You may also meet Bachelor in the lobby daily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

And if your very own Fido happens to be along for the ride, be sure to stop by the Bachelor pad for a meet and greet before exploring the grrreat outdoors.

The grand lodge architectural style of The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch exudes authentic Rocky Mountain luxury and captures the essence of the surrounding national forest, while also being named #1 Family Resort in the US & Canada, by Travel & Leisure Family.  This AAA Five- Diamond year-round destination resort offers limitless outdoor adventure including unmatched ski-in ski-out access on Beaver Creek Mountain, Colorado’s highest rated golfing with preferred tee times at the private Red Sky Golf Club on their two new 18-hole championship courses and the unrivaled luxury of The Bachelor Gulch Spa.  The only Vail Valley spa to be awarded the coveted Mobil Four-Stars, The Bachelor Gulch Spa at The Ritz-Carlton is a 21,000 square-foot spa and fitness center featuring 19 treatment rooms, a co-ed rock-lined grotto with lazy river hot tub, and integrated wellness program and both Pilates and yoga studios. It is a relaxing place to rejuvenate after an active or leisurely day on the mountain.  Bachelor, the resort’s resident Labrador Retriever is available for walks in Bachelor Gulch through our Loan-a-Lab program and is the perfect activity for the entire family. Designed by world-renowned hospitality designer Tony Chi,  Spago by Wolfgang Puck opened at the resort in late 2007 as the only  Colorado outpost of his legendary Beverly Hills restaurant.
