Eminem's new album cover - Relapse

Eminem released his new song and video for 3 A.M., an ode to serial killing and chopping bodies up. (Sigh).

I'm probably going to get some heat for this...but...Eminem is just not doing it for me these days. His much anticipated album, after a 5 year hiatus, Relapse, is shaping up to be much more of the same; a mixture of singable, silly hooks, pop culture pokes, and Em's syncopated, staccato-multi-syllabic-cadence, with production that just doesn't match the lyrical content or flow. I don't know. I'm torn. As a fan of hip hop, I feel like I HAVE to place Em at the top of my "top 5 dead or alive" list. He's just not doing it for me.

Haven't we gone through this with Eminem before? Hasn't he killed his girlfriend, his father, and other random people in lyric before? Hasn't he rapped about blacking out before and killing everyone? I mean, come on. I get that killing, drugs, violence, blacking out, etc. is his shtick...his selling point; but at what point will Eminem's fans get tired of the same old-same old.

I've attached the video of 3 A.M. Cinematically, it's a "good" video...but in connection with hip hop, it's not that groundbreaking. OK, maybe it's groundbreaking in that few rappers haven't gone this far to make a grotesque, violent, and cinematic take on serial killing...I just question its relevance in the game right now. I'm thinking it's not as relevant at the moment.

Additionally, Eminem is 36 years old...but I guess there's not cut-off age for serial killers.
