Nutro® has announced a new recall on several varieties of puppy foods.
Plastic found in dry dog and cat food products
Small pieces of melted plastic were found in several varieties of Nutro® brand dry dog and cat food products. Apparently, the plastic was introduced into the foods through the accidental introduction of a worker's plastic hat into the production process while the foods were being manufactured. The hat was, according to Nutro®, a "bump" cap, which is a protective head covering similar to a hard hat.
Several varieties of puppy food distributed to PetSmart® and Petco® stores
While Nutro® was successful in identifying and removing most of the affected foods before they reached the distribution chain, two brands of puppy foods believed to possibly contain small pieces of plastic were distributed to PetSmart® and Petco® stores in the following states:

Consumers should return recalled products
Pet owners feeding these diets should carefully check the packaging to determine whether their product has been recalled. Recalled products can be returned to the retailer for a full refund or exchange, according to Nutro®
