The 2009 CMA Awards have been handed out, but the biggest award winner was Taylor Swift, who won the CMA Entertainer of the Year Award for 2009. This is very remarkable, because it not only makes Taylor Swift the youngest artist to ever receive the award, but also the first solo female artist to win CMA Entertainer of the Year since Shania Twain did back in 1999. On a big night for the Country Music Awards, the 43rd annual show was not without its great moments. The 2009 CMA's made the smart decision of having Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley host the show, and on the whole they did a very good job.
Some of the other notable winners at the 2009 CMA Awards were Darius Rucker who took home the award for Best New Artist and won Best Vocal Duo of the Year. Darius Rucker has moved over to the genre of country music after spending quite a few years in the alternative music category as the lead singer for Hootie and the Blowfish. Now he is on his own, and is cranking out quite a few decent country songs that ended up garnering him an award that is usually given to a big up-and-coming country star in the industry. For Sugarland, this was the third consecutive year that they have taken home the duo award.
Lady Antebellum won the 2009 Single of the Year for her song I Run to You, and the 2009 Song of the Year went to In Color written by Jamey Johnson. Lady Antebellum later took home the award for Vocal Group of the Year as well, making it a very nice CMA Awards Show for the group.
One of the biggest awards of the night at any CMA is the Album of the Year Award, and this year's winner was Fearless by Taylor Swift. Not much of a surprise, as Swift has found immense success with this album, issuing single after single that would just shoot up the charts. Many thought that she would be able to take home the award, but it’s never a sure thing until the envelope is finally opened. To make it even more special, Taylor Swift got to give her acceptance speech without any rude interruptions by rap artists.
Swift wasn't done with winning Album of the Year, as she also took home Music Video of the Year with Love Story which came from the Fearless album. Later Swift would also win the award for Female Vocalist of the Year, making it almost a clean sweep in the biggest categories of the night for the energetic Swift. On the male side of things, host Brad Paisley won the award for Male Vocalist of the Year.
On the whole, the 2009 CMA's could be nicknamed 'The Taylor Swift Show' as she came away as the biggest winner of the night. It goes to show how popular Taylor Swift has become in such a short time, and she had one of the best nights we have seen at a country music awards show in quite some time.
