A criminal investigation into the prescribing of drugs to the late Michael Jackson, has begun even though autopsy reports announcing the official cause of death have not been released, according to TMZ. The site reports that California State Attorney General Jerry Brown has announced an investigation in tandem with the Los Angeles Police Department into Jackson's prescription drug use. The investigation is reminiscent of the pending Anna Nicole Smith case in which two of her prescribing doctors and her attorney/boyfriend have been charged with crimes connected with providing Smith with drugs she should not have been given legally. That trial is pending.
It was reported that a dangerous drug, Propofol, also known as Diprivan, was found in Jackson's home. This is a drug that is not ever used in home circumstances, and is most often found in hospital intensive care units. It is a fast acting anesthesia that Jackson purportedly wanted for sleep problems according to Cherilyn Lee, a nurse who had treated Jackson's children at his home, and had refused to give Jackson the drug when he asked her for it.
Deepak Chopra, a former friend and confidante of Jackson's until he says he refused to give Jackson the oxycontin Jackson wanted from him at which point Jackson stopped talking to him, stated in a television interview that Jackson was very good at getting the drugs he wanted from doctors, and called these doctors "legalized drug pushers."
Aliases that were used in the prescription of drugs for Jackson who could not legally have gotten them under his own name because of limitations pharmacists are given per person, are Omar Arnold and Jack London. Jackson's personal trainer, Lou Ferrigno, stated that he knew that Jackson used the name Omar Arnold when goofing around and making phony phone calls. According to TMZ, a local pharmacy has done an independent data base search and found it has prescribed to someone with the name Omar Arnold.
