Just announced today, beginning May 1, 2009 American Airlines will fly non-stop from Dallas to Madrid so make plans now to spend some time in Spain in the year.  The inaugural daily nonstop flight from Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport (DFW) and Madrid Barajas International Airport (MAD) will be aboard a 225-seat Boeing 767-300 aircraft in a two-class configuration.

The flight will depart from Dallas/Ft. Worth at 5:35 p.m. arriving in Madrid at 10:00 a.m. the following morning, with a flight time of nine hours 25 minutes. The return flight will depart Madrid at 1:10 p.m. arriving back at DFW at 4:45 p.m. the same day – a flight of about 10 hours and 35 minutes.

Madrid is one of the most popular destinations in Spain for Americans,” explains Javier Piñanes, director of the Tourist Office of Spain in New York.  “They come for the world-class art, to sample our innovative and traditional cuisine and to enjoy the nonstop nightlife.  All three of the city’s top cultural institutions – the Prado, Thyssen Bornemisza and Reina Sofía – doubled in size in the last four years and a new cultural star, the CaixaForum Madrid, opened to great acclaim last March.  Now with American’s new nonstop service, Texans and those in the southeast and western U.S. will be able to travel to Madrid faster and more conveniently,” says Piñanes.

Gerard Arpey, American’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, “Connecting Dallas/Ft. Worth to Madrid is more than simply providing new destinations and greater opportunities for our customers, it’s just as much about connecting cultures and opening up economic opportunities that did not previously exist.”

American Airlines also offers nonstop service to Madrid from Miami and nonstop service from New York to Barcelona.  For more information, go to www.aa.com.
