The Global Green Challenge in Australia will offer a grueling race through the Australian deserts and show that electric cars can go the distance.
The gist is with the Rallie de Monte Carlo under its belt, the Tesla Motors Roadster will be tested in Australia by its owner in the 2009 Global Green Challenge. We all know that there is no better way than to prove a technology through a race or rally and a tough like this, 3000 kilometers, or about 1,900 miles in a desert is a great way to show it can be done.
From Darwin To Adelaide. According to Electricnick, Internode Managing director Simon Hackett will enter his personal Tesla Roadster (the only one in Australia) in the grueling 2009 Global Green Challenge today. You can watch the live event here. The Global Green Challenge is a race made and created for alternative energy vehicles, such as electric vehicles, EV, from solar powered to aerodynamic streamlined concepts. Why? If you have to ask... well, why would you need to?
How feasible is it to drive a Tesla Roadster in such a rally? With a 3.5 hour recharge time, since we are in Australia that has a 240V system, the Tesla can replenish its battery pack in a few hours instead of double-digit on a 110V. Racing one there makes more sense. This will be a perfect setting to show off what electric vehicles, EV can do.
As time goes by we will see more of this type of racing and certainly look forward to them. They not only show potential drivers that EV offer superior performance, at least as far as raw performance and pure torque then their quirky internal combustion engine, ICE counterparts and also promote EV manufacturers who continue to develop the electric drive.
