For eight years We Are Scientists of New York City have worked the scene, painstakingly releasing record after record, relentlessly touring to promote themselves amid a sea of new indie rubbish.
It's paid off. Like Luna did years before them, playing and playing and playing, this summer Scientists supported R.E.M. in Europe. Then they rocked Australia. Now they're back in the States with The Stills and Kings of Leon for a great month-long tour that just started in Vegas last Saturday.
Their latest album, 2008's Brain Thrust Mastery, is a gem. It has at least one or more catchy singles (see: 'After Hours' which reminds some thing is their best track and reminds some of the lyrical prowess With Love and Squalor's 'Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt') and the album is a cohesive lyrical and sonic solid B+. They, like their tourmates Kings of Leon, seem to do better in the UK than Stateside, where Britney Spears or American Idol tossoffs score higher in the charts. In the UK, Brain Thrust has hit #11 on the charts. Those savvy Brits!
