ST. PETERSBURG- In a neighborhood where sirens and gunshots have been the norm recently, Halloween was about pumpkin carving, bobbing for apples and costumes at the Bartlett Park Community Garden. USF anthropology student Julien Ehrenkonig (center, white shirt) and other volunteers at the garden invited neighbors to bring kids to carve their own jackolantern and dress up in costumes October 31st. Andrea Hildebran opened the community garden a year ago to bring the community together.

"When people see a 'Paris Garden' I want them to remember Paris but I also want them to remember how we can do better for this neighborhood to change and stop the violence," Hildebran said.

Hildrebran is referring to Paris Whitehead-Hamilton, the 8-year-old girl killed in a drive-by shooting in April. Hildebran plans to build more gardens in the neighborhood in the memory of the little girl.
