Nintendo DS cover for Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars.

For many gaming companies, March is the last fiscal month of the year. Thus, it is traditionally a strong period for new releases. Here are the top five video games released in March.

5. Halo Wars (Xbox 360)
The popular first-person shooting franchise takes a shot in the real-time strategy genre. Despite the significant gameplay change, Halo Wars is still a Halo game at heart. With solid strategy elements and streamlined controls to boot, this is one game Halo fans shouldn’t miss.

4. Pokemon Platinum (Nintendo DS)
The latest mainline Pokemon game is definitely the most robust one yet with extra content like a new story mode, new Pokemons to captured and brand new mini-games. So if you haven’t jumped in the addicting RPG series yet, Pokemon Platinum will be a good place to start.

3. Resident Evil 5 (Playstation 3 and Xbox 360)
Even with all the controversies behind it, Resident Evil 5 still remains one of the best games so far in 2009. The horror series gets more intense in the latest sequel with high-definition graphics and action-packed gameplay. Make sure to play Resident Evil 5 cooperatively more maximum effect.

2. Resistance: Retribution (PSP)
Resistance: Retribution brings the high-octane shooting Playstation 3 series to the PSP. If the lengthy and engrossing campaign mode isn’t enough, you can connect to Resistance 2 to unlock new content. Add in addicting multiplayer play and you have yourself the best PSP game so far in 2009.

1. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (Nintendo DS)
Nintendo wanted an original Grand Theft Auto on their systems for years. It is hard to blame them when Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars turned out so good. Combining elements from the older games with newer innovations of the recent ones, the latest game in the series features the best of both worlds. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on the Nintendo DS is the best game released in March.
