(UPDATE on 02/27/09)

After much speculation, the Obama clan has allegedly decided on a dog. Which one? According to People Magazine, they selected a Portuguese water dog. Per this gossip rag, The First Lady (Michelle Obama) told them that the choice was made based on the medium size and temperament of this breed. Also, Portuguese water dogs are excellent for allergy sufferers like Malia. So, the next step is to get one.

President Obama and his family plan on getting their dog toward the end of April. It’ll be an activity for them during Spring Break. This is an excellent time considering the weather will be warm and the girls (Sasha/Malia) can start a routine. So what’s left? They need to select a name for their dog.

The selection of a name for the Obama dog could stir up just as much public speculation as the pick of it. So let me start the ball rolling. I’d go with “Sugar” or “Sweetie.” These are excellent names for little girls to call their pets – plus unique.

After the release of this story, news broke that this may not be true. Apparently, the Obama clan may still be on the look out for a dog. I will keep you posted.
