After months of sitting on a shelf, the Forest Whitaker and Jennifer Hudson featured Fragments finally has a release date.

Coming straight to DVD, after a limited theatrical release, Fragments is due to arrive in stores August 4.

Focused on a group of survivors who must face life on different terms after shots ring out and the early morning tranquility of a diner shatters, Fragments finds each character transforming in unexpected ways.

Also featuring Dakota Fanning (The Secret Life of Bees), Guy Pearce (L.A. Confidential) and Jeanne Tripplehorn (Winged Creatures), Fragments was shot before both Whitaker and Hudson won Oscars for their respective roles in The Last King of Scotland(2006) and Dreamgirls(2006).

Fragments was directed by Rowan Woods and written by Roy Freirich.

In related news, Forest Whitaker has begun shooting his next flick Family Wedding.

Also starring Ugly Betty's America Ferrera and Carlos Mencia, Family Wedding follows two overbearing fathers who must put aside their differences to plan the wedding of their son and daughter in less than two weeks.

Photos from the set with both Forest Whitaker and comedian/actor Charlie Murphy made their way to the next last week. Take a look at photos from the set here.
