Part of an already star driven family, R&B singer/producer Ray J has gradually carved his own path over the years despite being known for some time as Brandy's little brother...
HARD FACTS:
William R. Norwood, Jr., January 17, 1981
Younger brother of singer/actress Brandy Norwood
Star of the VH1 Reality Series "For The Love of Ray J"
BET personality, host
Chart-topping recording artist/producer
CLAIM TO FAME:
Already known as the younger brother of Cinderella and Moesha actress/singer Brandy Norwood, Ray J gradually carved his own path separate from his award-winning sister via both television and music.
Although the younger Norwood had released the albums "Everything You Want (1997)" and "This Ain't A Game (2001)," it wasn't until a leaked pornographic tape with socialite Kim Kardashian and tabloid covered "relationship" with Grammy Award-winning diva Whitney Houston became front page news at weeklies and gossip blogs that Ray J became a household name.
While Ray J's love life has been admired and followed by many -- perhaps more than his music -- the talented singer/producer has earned his keep in recent years by topping the charts ("Sexy Can I") and taking over the television screen via both scripted and unscripted projects on BET, UPN and VH1.
Beyond! (Film, Television, Collaborative Efforts) :
While Ray J has enjoyed success with two albums between 2005 and 2008 ("Raydiation" and "All I Feel"), the former "Sinbad" and "Moesha" star has remained strong on the small screen as well. In fact, Ray J has both appeared as a host or as a guest on several BET programs including the 'BET Coundown'. However, the former "One Wish" singer's biggest break came in late 2008 when VH1 announced 'For The Love of Ray J,' a reality based love search and competition.
Seemingly following VH1's long line up of 'love search' reality shows including Public Enemy rapper Flavor Flav's "Flavor of Love" and subsequent spin-offs "I Love New York" and "Real Chance of Love," Ray J's "For the Love of Ray J" premiered during the spring of 2009. Shortly after the premiere of the series, Ray J reavealed plans to release the first ever reality show soundtrack which saw digital retailers and stores in March of 2009.
Back on the music front, Ray J has worked with his sister Brandy, Hip Hop star Yung Berg, Yo-Yo, and The Game.
In 2004 Ray J launched Knockout Entertainment, a label that released 2008s "All I Feel" and Brandy's 2008 effort "Human".
