Feeling that they've done their part for humanity with the introduction of Kentucky Grilled Chicken, KFC has introduced the Double Down.
Between two fried chicken fillets lie two slices of bacon, melted Swiss and pepper jack cheese and some nastiness called "the Colonel's sauce."
Really, it sounds like one of those items from This is Why You're Fat, a compendium of fatty food porn.
KFC estimates the calories as being just under 600 calories. And of course that doesn't include fries or a tub of soda. And I can't even imagine how many grams of sat fat. There are plenty healthier things to stuff in your pie hole at KFC, like the grilled chicken, grilled chicken salads (hold the dressing), green beans, corn and other non batter-fried items.
The "sandwich" is being test marketed in Rhode Island and Nebraska, so don't get your hopes up.
Often when restaurants introduce items like this and people write about unhealthy they are, commenters are quick to jump on the "don't tell me what I can and cannot eat" bandwagon. Here's the thing: There is far too much of this stuff in America's fast-food restaurants and for many people, this isn't a "once in a blue moon" treat -- they eat this stuff all the time because it's cheap and easy. That's the problem: Usually the cheap stuff on the menu is the most unhealthy, and people have to pay a premium for better food.
